Hello kind folks, and happy new year!Hopefully someone can help and offer some insight into an issue I'm having with my recorder.
I purchased a Panasonic DMR-ES10 on a recommendation from several folks and have made many recordings already on it from VHS tapes that I have made in the past off of TV shows, home movies, etc. I have been very pleased with the quality, ease of use, and versatility of the unit. I have run across an issue which has been somewhat addressed in other posts, but not specific to my issue (I don't think).
On a few of my tapes while transferring, the unit tends to add a small amount of jitter to the picture. This has occurred on tapes recorded in SP and EP mode alike (none of the source tapes are effected by Macrovision or anything like that). I have adjusted several DVD settings and can't solve the issue. I have tried tracking adjustments and sometimes on the EP tapes it can minimize the jitter a bit, but not completely. When the tapes are shown without being connected through the DVD unit, there is no jitter. Does anyone know what causes this and if anything can be done?![]()
Thanks all!
Scott![]()

Try using a video stabilizer if that doesn't work. A Full Frame TBC should do it if the source is good.

The problem is not the recorder but the source tape. You need to get your hands on a TBC unit to stablize the signal coming into the recorder. I purchased a Datavideo TBC 1000 and it cleared up most of the tapes I recorded that had this problem.
There are a few products on the market that will help stablize your source video.
Also the Panasonic E-S10 doesnot have strong (if any) capabilities that will stabilize video.Do unto others....with a vengeance! -
hi, ejai! thanks for the advice =) however, i don't think that will fix my particular issue
the problem only shows up when the signal is fed thru the dvd recorder. if i try to dub the same tape to another vcr, or simply watch it on tv without connecting it thru the dvd recorder, the picture is perfect. the issue only pops up when the signal goes thru the dvd recorder

I understand and that is why you may need a TBC stablizer. The same things you are experiencing is what I went through. Not only with the Panasonic but also with the JVC M10, everything would play fine as long as the signal didn't pass thru the dvd recorders.
The dvd recorders seem to be a bit more sensitive than VCR and televisions, the technology is different. That is why we have TBC and Stablizers on the market to attempt to fix these issues.Do unto others....with a vengeance! -
Save yourself the money, and go get a JVC dmr70. 10 tapes, 10 awesome conversions, no abnormal jitter iussues that I experienced with the same tapes using a different dvd recorder.
