Problems burning home movie onto dvd

Hi,
I have attempted to burn movies downloaded from my camcorder using Nero6.3.0.0, but to no avail. I have successful burned home movies on DVD before, but since my pc was rebuilt recently I have been unsuccessful.

First attempt failed as I did not have the right codec, and I had to download from Indeo.ligos. I have since downloaded gspot to identify the codec type. I have also upgraded Nero to Nero 6.6.0.18, but no luck.

I have used Windows Movie Maker, Ulead video studio 7 basic, and Video presenter 2.0 to capture the movie. I have tried to export these in a format that Nero expects, but all options have been limited to either AVI or MPEG.

When I try to burn the above with Nero express it expects bup, vob or ifo file types, and attempting to burn the avi or mpeg file it responds with “The current compilation file is not supported by Nero Express. Would you like to open it in Nero Burning Rom instead?” Obviously, ROM burns the compilation, but I am unable to play it on my dvd player.

Any suggestions on what I’m doing wrong, or how to overcome the above problem

You seem to be missing the authoring step. It is the step that takes your compliant mpeg files and turns them into a DVD. I believe that NeroVision Express can do this - do you have it ?

No, i don't have it. As for authoring, i was under the impression Nero managed that prior to burning, and as i didn't have vision express previously, i'm now wondering how i managed to convert it previously..

You need Nero Vision Express. That will take your Avi or Mpg and basically author it ( Create DVD ) then you process your compilation wich creates the Video-TS file structure you then burn in Nero Burning Rom in DVD/Movie mode.
