  1. Im trying to burn onto dvd an X-Files full series i have. The total size of it is about 2.5GB. A dvd only holds 120mins of film however. I know you can still put the whole thing onto dvd, how the hell do you do this. I have Nero, Dvd Shrink and a few other apps. I can only fit about 4 episodes of the 19 i think onto 1 disc.

Not true. If encoded to VCD specs, 6-7 hours of video can be authored as Video DVD on a DVD5.
What's the format of your episodes? AVI (DivX/Xvid) or mpg or what?

OK, AVI with XviD video, mp3 audio. (Hopefully not VBR mp3, as that can cause sync problems for most encoders!)
If you want as many as possible on a DVD, encode to VCD specs (TMPGEnc) and author using TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Just add one title for each episode, and add the encoded mpg to the title.
Continue 'til you've filled the DVD. Repeat if needed with another DVD. FDon't expect more than "slightly worn VHS" quality from this, and that is if your AVIs are very good to begin with!
If you want quality, encode to mpeg2 @ about 4x XviD bitrate with an mpeg2 encoder instead of to VCD specs.
Take a look at the CONVERT section for XVID to DVD for further suggestions.

You are trying to compare the compression of mpeg-4 (divx/xvid) with the compression of mpeg-2 (DVD), which is a fools errand. There is a reason you only get 4 episodes to a dual layer disk in a real X-files boxset. Mpeg-2 requires around 3 - 4 times the amount of space as mpeg-4 to keep the same quality (note : the same quality). A studio DVD will be of far higher quality, and will require more space again.

If you want to keep all 19 episodes on one disc, burn it as a data disc. You won't be able to play it back in a standard DVD player, but if your supports Divx playback it will probably work.

If you really want decent quality, get out your original box set, and use DVD Rebuilder to compress them to half-D1. Easily get 4 episodes to a disc at much better quality than you will get from your xvids.

    Wow! Apples vs. Oranges alert!

DVD only holds 2 hours of DVD-Quality video, and only if the media's single sides, single layer.

If you can accept lower quality, then you can cram as much as 10-14 hours of LOUSY video, and about 4-6 hours of VCD quality video.

    What's "DVD-quality video"?
IMO, VCD quality is "LOUSY video"!
In the end, it's all in the eye of the beholder, what's acceptable (or any other "grade") or not.

Yeah..why don't you use your original dvd's? You could easily pull the episodes and use dvd-shrink which you already have in deep analysis mode and get it on the disk and still have acceptable quality on a sdtv. It's really puzzling to me why you wouldn't want to go the easy route...perhaps you could explain???

Then maybe he should go out and buy the set.
No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD!
