I've done a lot of DVD work and I know that audio sync is a common issue. However, I just ripped a DVD to my hard drive and started to cut out a couple of bad parts for the kids and noticed that the audio(ac3,1h:55m) is way longer than the video(1h:32m).

I've never seen one be off by this much and cuttermaran is totally screwing up the audio cuts. The video cuts are perfect but the audio cuts are way off the mark. Any ideas?

    Tools Used:
DVD Decrypter to rip to hard drive
VOB Edit to demux streams to m2v/ac3
Cuttermaran to cut out some parts
    IfoEdit to re-author

    Thanks!!

try demux with pgcedit instead of vobedit. you can also demux directly with dvddecrypter.

  3. If it's a more recent retail DVD (as opposed to an uncopyprotected home video), DVD Decrypter might not rip it correctly (since it hasn't been updated in a few years). You might want to try DVDFab HD Decrypter instead.

I'll try the software mentioned. Thanks for the help. It's a retail release that I wan't to cut a scene out that's a little too gory. I wonder if Cuttermaran just struggles with ac3 audio. If I don't cut it and just remux it back together it plays perfectly, even though Cuttermaran says the audio stream is 23 minutes longer than the video. I'll report my findings. Thanks again.

  5. If all you want to do is cut out a scene, once you get it decrypted (properly) to the hard drive, open it in VobBlanker and use the Prev/Cut button to cut the scene. Process and burn.

''bad parts for the kids'', OR "bad" parts for YOUR anachronous superego

If a job really doesn't need to be done, better not to do it.
