  1. Hi all,

OK - I started making backup copies of my movies for use in the car because they get so much more beatup then in the house.

Anyway, I always use DVDdecryptor to pull files and then reencode with DVDshrink and then burn the iso back to dvd with DVDdecryptor again. I only use Verbatim DVD+R 1-4x (media code 003). I have made about 30-40 movie backups over the last 12 months or so. They all play fine in both my home players (Toshiba and LiteOn) as well as my PS2 - and my Chrysler Town & Country.

All of a sudden about 6weeks ago, none of the backups I now make can play in the car anymore. The player tries and tries and then says "error" and ejects the DVD. These moves play fine inside on all my players, and I still have 30-40 movies from before this issue started that work in the car and everywhere else, but I just cannot make any new movies that will work in the car.

I've always used the exact same media, but I have gone thru many different orders of them. So it's possible that it's a bad batch issue (I've been on the same order of 200 discs while I've had this issue) - but these all play fine in all my other players and the media info from DVDidentifier is identical

Anybody have any ideas that I could try?

Clean the laser head. That's probably causing the issues you are experiencing.

  3. I can give that a shot, but the player (in the car) still plays fine - for any move I backed up BEFORE mid-December. I can pop one in there now that I did like Dec 10th or so and it'll play fine.

If it's a dirty laser head, I would expect it to effect all movies played in the car, not just the ones after mid-December.

But none of the ones I've done since mid-Dec will not play in the car, even though it's the exact same media code, burned with the same process, and on the same computer.

All the backups - regardless of date made will play in my two other players, my PS2, and computer.

Are you using the same media (media code)? Maybe the player doesn't recognize new media.

  5. Yep - using "003" media code. Verbatim 1-4x DVD+Rs, using booktype of DVD-ROM. Using this same media for all the ones that do work, and all the ones that don't.

I even used DVD Identifier to look at a DVD backup that plays fine in the car and compared it to one that does not play fine in the car - - they are exact ringers.
