Think about it, this brings up another subject, I was told SONY DVD players stink at playing back RW DVD's

It's not the SONY, in fact, there is not "Crappy" machine, it's the recorder that you recored the footage on.

Again, think about it, how is it I am able to play ANY DVD like Saving Private Ryan, or Spider man, any STORE bought DVD on my player, yet, they have YET to perfect the playback on the R/RW medias?

    Why is this?

Face it, they have YET to perfect the DVD playablity on these DVD's for some reason (either its the recorder not the media)

And the solution should NOT be "Go try it on another player that can play the thing"

No one in their right might will go out buying another DVD player that CAN Play the DVD's right? That is not a valid solution.

Wrong. It has nothing to do with the recorder.

DVD players adhere to the DVD specs. This only include DVD-R, with mild support for DVD-RW, even less for DVD-RAM. DVD+R and DVD+RW and DVD+R DL are not required.

It has a lot to do with the quality of the lasers in the players, and the way it was created to read discs (including, but not limit to, booktypes).

Newer formats also pose a problem for players that existed before the discs, which is why many players don't work with DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD+R DL, or DVD-R DL.

You also have to understand the reflectivity and readbility differences between pressed discs (the "bought" discs), recordable dye media, and re-writeable phase change media. And further than that are the variations in dyes and materials, with different properties between AZO and p-cyanine and others.

WEll, the only thing I come up with is the typical common denominator...they MAKE things so that you have to go out and by things (newer things) which are compatible. Not saying that's a conspiracy or anything lol

    Couldn't be more right

I do believe that +R and +RW are here to stay.
As he says, a lot of older machines will not play a + disk I have run ito a few but not newer units except, Sony. Otherwise I have had no problems

I should add; I do have a hard nosed atitude towards Sony, but their products do cause a multitude of problems.

I think you must be right. I can't find a single DVD player that will play my old video tapes. And I've never seen a CD player that will play my 45's and LPs.

Why can't they just quit making new stuff and leave things the way they were 100 years ago. There was nothing wrong with Edison's original phonograph.

    RIGHT

I just read in the paper where a research group said the the old vinyl records were better than a CD

  7. I don't know why anyone would choose +RW over -RW. You can't delete files off of +RW and get the space back. You have to erase the whole disc. -RW allows you to erase parts of the disc(files) and gain the space back.

I think he means parts of files meaning for instance if you edit out commercials on a + disc you only gets small free spaces but not a longer continuous space. On a - disc you can move data on the disc and get a longer continuous space to record new content to!.

Or did I get this wrong??

All I know is that my Sony DVD Player the DVP-NS330 from 2003:

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDname=sony+dvp+ns330&Search=Search&dvdportable=&...y=Name&hits=25

Plays almost everything you throw at it includning + discs. Just read the info above!

Do you mean that in 2005 Sonys has turned bad and is crap at playing disc nowadays when the overall trend is more compatability??.

I have a hard time believing that!.

    First and Formost

    I, and no one else has called Sony Equipment crappy;

The term crappy came by way of [ Fanboy1 ] himself.

I stand on what I said on this post and a quote of mine from another thread you started

I stand on that also and I will add That in my opinion Sony Is overpriced and overrrated

    From another thread by [ Fanboy1 ]

    TO [Fanboy1] My quote

I used to buy Sony, They were well made and worked well. Today. thats not true.

They have become so obsess and paranoid with copy protection, to a point thet a lot of their equipment will not operate properly.and much of their copy schemes have been a problem for more than one DVD maker

I didn’t say go out and buy another unit, Just try the disk on another unit. Not a Sony

Again we don't know the make of recorder you are using. But I guess you can blame your problem on it.

    UNQUOTE

NOTE I said aLOT I Didn't say all

    [Fanboy1] Take or leave it
