imagine playing some doom 3 or half life 2 on that thing!! I'm not particularly partial to Dell myself, but that thing looks friggin amazing!

It's nothing new - Gigabyte's prototype Royal Quad SLI board made the rounds quite a while ago now. Anyway, what's the point?..I mean we're already CPU bound as is - perhaps it will become an issue when quad-core finally shows, but by then we will at best have games only optimized for dual core. Then there's the whole issue of $$ - you're looking @ a MINIMUM of $1200 US (for a 4x7800GT/board based setup - not inc drives+case+power+monitor+++) to about $3000 US (4x7800GTX 512MB/mobo) - that's just friggin insane. Then add in the profit margins, build/warranty charges you're going to pay with paying Dell for something similar..You're looking @ a $5000 system at least.
And what about the power usage on that thing? Well @ least there may be a reason for the PC Power & Cooling 850w and 1kw models now..Not that the average Dell consumer wants a $3-500 power supply in their PC.
[edit] Also what about expandability - if this Dell is anything like the Gigabyte motherboard I saw, it takes up the ENTIRE expansion area - ie: NO sound cards, RAID cards, etc...Unless perhaps they're going to use 2xdual GPU cards for quad SLI that is... -
True, it definately ain't gonna be cheap, i havent seen anything in writing but ive heard numbers thown out for this thing for anywhere between 5000 and 7000 bux
as far as expandability, i wouldnt buy it either, unless it had like 2 or 3 open PCI slots......power supply, yes, it will definately be a headache in that department, i cant really see anything like that being "energy efficiant" the whole thing though, is it would look pretty nice playing unreal tournament games
I do agree that it should be more expandable than i think it's gonna be, but even so, its one of those things thats just kinda "cool" I just wish that ATI would get on top of the ballgame and crank out something that is "cool" like that........a 2gb ati all in wonder, for example, would be just astounding right about now
i couldnt see that being cost efficiant though.....

I would probably look into a dual SLI, IF it did more than help me to run the next great FPS.
