DVDSanta author results in dark picture

I have been using DVDsanta for not very long at all. I wa using Cucusoft for pretty much everyhitng before, (not very time efficient).
DVDsanta seemed like a very easy one click program and worked prefectly for a little while. All of a sudden it started outputting a screen that is way too dark. The picture is barley visible but you can make it out. These files are good quality so I set it to high resolution (720x480). I set it at medium resolution once as a test and still got dark screen.
feed me ideas please. thanks

i would try something else...divxtodvd.
