Hello I am rather new to the forums, I did search during my 1 day wait...found some helpful things, but didn't quite pinpoint the problem I have.

This issue has been quite a headache with me.

I recently purchased a DUAL-DVD/VCR Recorder Combo (An INSIGNIA IS-DVD100121 - in house BEST BUY)

I am wanting to use this to record OLD VHS movies to Blank DVD Media format.

Currently, the format I'm CURRENTLY using is Memorex DVD DVD+RW discs (the more expensive).

I had been doing "Test" recording of short TV bits.

First I recorded ONE shot, TV commercial...and it played back on my SANYO DWM-370 fine. The FIRST time.

THen I decided to take the RE-writable media, reformat it, and record some more...only this time short bits one after another.

I played it back on my SANYO, played the first one okay, then whenI hit the "MENU" button the whole SANYO machine locked up, and was making funny noises, had to unplugg it and turn it back on again to eject it....now THAT was wierd.

But, I am seeing a relation to ahving doing a RE-write on the Insignia, and only then the issue arose when I attempted to play it on the SANYO PLayer again.

ie - Freezin up, choppy video etc.....sometimes I wonder if its due to the integrity of the DVD+RW when you try to RE-use it.

ALSO, the "UNfinilazation" is greyed out too on the INSIGNIA

That's all I can think of for now...

OH, called the insignia support people...the tech there told me to look in the SANYO Manual, to see what it supports, says nothing aobut it supporting DVD+ or minus anything, just DVD Video, and MP3's and VCD's

Perhaps thats it? Though it did make an "EFFORT" to play my things

OH, I recorded an episode of Stargate on a DVD+R and it playe don the SANYO just fine.

But, another issue, my dad needs those DVDs to be able to be played on HIS DVD Player a SONY (dont know the Model No. apparently SONY can play anything )as well, AAAAAGGH!!

I wonder if I am better off not getting "Fancy" and just let it do a LONG Run record, and just play it back on the Players.

Oh yeah...and finally, the SANYO doesn't even RECOGNIZE the DVD+RW "No play/NO Disk"

Maybe the Sanyo doesn't like DVD-RW or maybe just the ones you are feeding it? Check your player under "DVD Players' to the left. <<< You may find what DVD-RW media works on it. Or doesn't.

Or it may be the way your recorder burns the disc.

I can tell you Sony's don't play everything. Some models are very picky about media and format.

Do some research on both units compatibility with disc formats and brands and find a combination that works. That's really the best way.

Who fed you that line of garbage
Of all the many brands i have had over the last many many many years, i have had and seen more issues with "sony" dvd & cd players
Anyone with any experiance will also steer you away from combo units.

And pretty much what redwudz stated also, could be the recorder does not like the media you are using also.

Why are you using dvd-rw's instead of just dvd-r's ?

So I can record the same TV shows over and over, I don't intend on keeping them around, I just want to record , say Stargate...then record over that the next following week.

What's the point of recording an hours worth of TV Footage that you don't intend on keeping.

Waste not, my friend! Use RW's
