  1. I recently purchased a Blu Ray player. It's a Memorex Blu Ray Player MVBD2530GPH. I've never had one before. On the box it said it was DVD+r and -R compatible. Any burned DVD that I've done myself or others have burned for me will play fine until approximately the half way point in the movie. Then it will play, Freeze, play, Freeze etc. It will do this all the way to the end of the movie. However, I can play it on any DVD player just fine. I thought that it was a defect and returned and exchanged it for a new one. The new one does the same thing. I thought maybe it was an incompatibility issue until I saw that all the movies that I've burned are all on Memorex DVD-r's so if it's an incompatability issue I find it ironic that is's incompatible with it's own brand name.

Are all blu ray players like this, do they not play DVD-r's properly? It's frustrating because I got a new blu ray player because my 10+ year old dvd player stopped playing DVD's all together. I wanted to be able to watch any movie I wanted in my bed room. Now i can only watch half of my movie collection. Deciding whether to return this one and just get a plain old dvd player that will play my collection. I don't have any blu ray dics anyway.

Any help would be appreciated. I contact memorex and they keep saying it's a defective unit...but I doubt all of them will have that same defect. And there is no firmware update.

Anyone know of any good Blu Ray Players that Play burned DVD R's (any make and brand manufacturer) nicely? The memorex one I got for $79 on sale (after rebate $59). I could return this one but would need to find one for the same price elsewhere. Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Mel

  2. Get an LG BD player they play almost all good formats MKV,MP4,BD,DVD,AVCHD,TS,MPEG mine has played every single dvd thrown at it without a problem.

These days with BD still a new format I wouldn't get a player that can't have firmware updates due to in the future without firmware updates they wont be able to play new media.

  3. Well they say that the firmware update for the model up will work, but it doesn't specifically address the dvd -r issue. The one I purchased apparently has just been discontinued. Must have been an older model. Because it's been discontinued, there probably will not be any more firmware updates available. I did look at the LG, but doesn't say that it plays DVD-R's and +R's in the specs. Will check it out.

  4. All bluray players will play dvd-r or +r. BD550 - BD530 - BD570 - BX580 - BD590 are good player,they don't need to say they play dvd as it's obvious any bluray will.

Just an FYI, that means absolutely nothing as Memorsux does not make their own media, they just have their name stamped on it, and it's basically landfill drink coaster grade media.

Noahtuck is 100% correct. Memorsux discs are some of THE WORST ever made.
Get some Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden discs and burn with ImgBurn (free software) and your problems will most likely go away.
