  1. i have a dvd player (liteon 2120) which plays divx but some play with no sound.

I can convert these to VCD to play them but i would like to know if there's an easier way?

ive attached a word document that contains the requirements of my player and a snap shot of the file information using virtual dub.

    any help is much appreciated,

In general, it's because the sound channel is using a format it doesn't support. You'll have to use GSpot on those DIVX AVI files and let us know what's different between the ones that did play vs. ones that did not. As is, we have no info on the files themselves.

  3. Yeah, there is easier way. Demultiplex the audio, reencode it to format that play and mux it back with video. Burn and play.

  4. this is an example of a file that works

    Name: 0x0055(MP3) ID'd as MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Bitrate:155 kb/s (77/ch, stereo) VBR LAME3.97bº
    FS: 48000 Hz

This is one that doesnt work
NAme: ac3 (0x2000) Dolby Laboratories, Inc
    Bitrate: 448 kb/s (5 ch) CBR
    FS: 48000 Hz

    Hope this helps?

Seems like your player doesn't like AC3 in AVI (why not is beyond me!) - So, load the AVI in VirtualDub (you need the AC3 decoder for VDub!), set video to direct stream, set audio to full processing and select mp3 under compression and save out a new ver. of your AVI.
Here's a link to the AC3 decoder for VirtualDub.
Here's the link for VirtualDub MP3 encoder (lame).

    Ah, that would explain it.

Your DIVX player can't dynamically downsample the AC3 audio stream down to stereo from a DIVX file. But it can play all flavors of MP3.

If you want to keep the files as DIVX video, you need to learn how to use BeSweet (and BeSweetGUI). Basically, you need to extra the audio AC3 stream, downsample them into MP3s using BeSweet, and then mux them back into the AVI, so now you have a DIVX file with MP3 audio instead of AC3 audio.

On the other hand, I'd also check if there's a firmware upgrade for your player that may allow it to do AC3 streams by itself.

  7. Yes, of course. Your player seems doesn't like ac3 5.1 channel sound muxed with divx. So you load the divx file in VDubMod, Streams->Stream list. Demux the ac3 and use an audio encoder to make stereo mp3 file. Load again the divx in VDM go to the stram list disable the ac3 add the mp3. Select direct stream copy for video and save as-> new avi file.
    This is the hard way.
The easy way is to look at the manual and the settings of your player. I am sure there is a way to output the ac3 as LPCM.

Well, even on my ANCIENT Pioneer DV-525 DVD PLayer, there are options to downsample the 5.1 Dolby Surround into stereo PCM, so there should be some sort of a firmware option if they want to read the AVI files directly. IMHO, of course.

Some Divx players seem to require an extra license to aneable 5.1 AC3 output, I guess to keep costs down. Paying the license fee entitles the owner to a firmware update that enables the function. I'd suggest you read your manual or go to the manufacturers website to see what's going on.
