when converting using tmpgenc they work really well but with winavi i get little pauses when playing them back on dvd player even though i use mp2 audio for tmpgenc and mp2 for winavi is this a codec problem that gets conflicts with winavi? as i used to convert with winavi a while back and never had a problem with the pauses.

i only have 1 problem with tmpgenc at the moment... im trying to convert a avi file to dvd but when i go to source range i dont see/hear any audio
i use avi decompressor and then load the pcm audio file into tmpgenc but still same problem...what can i do to get the audio? the avi file runs and audio plays using windows media player and powerdvd

Use g-spot to tell you what the audio format of the avi is, or try to load it into virtualdubmod. Either way I suspect it will be VBR MP3 - the devil's format.

Use virtualdubmod to save the audio out to an uncompressed wav file, then use this file for the audio in tmpgenc.

The difference between the two applications ?

Simple. One is a high quality, albeit slow, mpeg 2 encoder. The other is monkey crap. I'll leave you to ponder which is which.

Streams->Stream List. Right-click on the audio stream and select Full Processing. Right-click again and select Compression. Click on Uncompressed. You can now Save Wav and get an uncompressed wav file.

Because you still haven't converted the audio to uncompressed wav. g-spot is telling you it is VBR MP3 (vile, evil, useless). If you followed my instructions correctly, you should have a seperate .wav file on your HDD which has the uncompressed audio. This is what you need to use in tmpgenc. No self-respecting encoder will accept the evil that is VBR MP3.

If you already have the MPG file converted, use File / MPEG Tools and mux the audio back into the video.

On the other hand, you MAY want to compress the PCM Audio (i.e. WAV) into a CBR MP3 first to save some space.
