    Hi all experts!

I recently bought myself a Samsung TSST(?) SH-W162L (Lightscribe) DVD-writer and I have some serious problems with it. I can not use it in DMA mode. Windows locks up completely when I start up my burning software (Nero or DVD-Decrypter).

It does work fine when using it in PIO mode, burning at ~1.5x but this is pretty painful.

I have it installed solo as master (jumped as master too) on my secondary IDE channel. I use an 80-pin cable. I have the latest firmware. I have DMA enabled in my BIOS. I have DMA enabled in Windows XP SP2. I tried to force the DMA through the registry. I tested it in a fresh Windows XP SP2 installation. Same result. Actually I have followed every recommendation but it won't work. (I tested it in my girlies Compaq but I can't reach the BIOS on that computer so it always shows up as PIO, weird.)

So my last hope is to you guys before it goes out the front window (not XP this time).

    Thanks!
    Richard, Sweden

    My system:
ASUS P4C800 MB with Intel 875P chipset
    Pentium 4 2.8GHz, 768MB RAM
Seagate 80G solo as master on Primary
DVD Writer solo as master on Secondary
Two Seagate 250G's on external IDE controller (tested both with and without this controller)

about the only thing i can suggest, since you have Nero, is to open Nero Toolbox ans check the configuration, that your drive is recognized, and to make sure your ASPI is installed properly and working. Very useful quick check tool.
