  1. Im wanting to experiment with some BW video footage to turn it into colour. During my research, I found this:

    http://www.cs.huji.ac.il/~yweiss/Colorization/index.html

Theres a zip file to download and opening the readmes in Notepad, it says you can use this with your favourite imaging software. But I have no clue how to enable this. It also mentions metalab or something?

Can anyone explain more about this please? If I got it working, it would certainly help save time!

you would have to write the software to use it .. it doesnt really exist ... it is a research paper ..

commercial colorization costs $$$ and/or you can attempt it by painting frame by frame with advanced tools like flint, flame or fury - or in combustion , shake or fusion (or red) which tracks pixels frame by frame ... those setups start at around 5000$ and up (and up and up) ...

And complicated, and expensive. Some of them require pretty high-end kit, usually put together to custom spec to run.

Well...A program must exist, because they have working video samples on that webpage. They need to release the code or start selling the program.

I seem to remember another paper reported over at doom9. I think they actually had a working method. You picked 4 or 5 areas in a sample frame and assigned colors, and the program guessed at the rest of the colors in that frame and the rest of the video. (Of course to get it right you'd have to do a whole lot more work. The bad thing is it needed
    MatLab to run.
