With very few exceptions...yes. There are something like four games that won't work but the rest will. They even look a little sharper....

ps1 memory cards will also save ps1 games in the ps2
ps1 joypads will play ps1 (and some ps2) games on the ps2
ps2 memory cards will not save ps1 games tho.

and while I'm here, ps2 doesn't play VCDs

Also remember that if you turn on your ps2 with no disc in, you can change the settings for how it plays ps1 games, you can speed up load times and smooth textures (turn it off if your ps1 game won't run).

You need a modchip in order for your ps1 backups to play on the PS2. The modchip will allow you to play both PS2 and ps1 backup games

no you need a internal or external mod chip like the plug' n play PS2 mod or the Neo which you can buy over the net

If u want a Modchip, get a Stealth modchiip INTERNALLY
External modchips (USB) still need to use the "swap trick" method.

Stealth mods, are up to date in future reference.
That means that new games that come out after the date the mod was made will still me able to play backup games.

USB mods do NOT need to use swap trick but it still needs someone to sauder 1 wire to re-route it internally so it can by pass ps game checking and region check

no swap is required for the reacently released NEO4. the maker, http://www.playstationmods.com/ closed at the request of sony, becuase their modchip is just that good hehe.

you can find the NEO4 available for purchase though, at other websites (do a search)
