  1. Everyone:

Someone sent me a video that is an .exe. It's a self extracting video file...which I'v never heard of. It plays, but it's fullscreen, not resizeable, and has it's own playing controls (which suck). I'm trying to find a way to extract the video to just an avi or mpeg so I can play it in my normal video player. Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    P.s. it's not a virus; it's from a trusted person.

How large is the video. Smaller videos are often (swf) flash files converted to exe.
There are programs that say they extract those but all the one's I have seen only capture the frames to bmp or jpg and then recreate an avi from the pics.

If someone imbedded an avi or mpeg video into an executable then you could try a tool like this one:

    http://www.wiagra.com/wvj/index.asp?r=info&prog=wvj

Look on the right side of the page at the freeware tool exe2avi.

I don't promise results because I only found this by doing a google search. At least it's a start and tells you what you might look for.

  3. I tried that program...but it says avi stream not found in input file. It's not a swf file, because it has audio...i don't know what to do next.
