    Hi,

The life of the black ink of my Epson r220 is about to run out and I will need to replace it for the first time. The ink cartridge number is T048120 and it costs about $18 + tax at my local Best Buy. I was wondering if anyone has tried some of the non-Epson OEM style cartridges online which are cheaper. I have seen some go as little as $5 a cartridge online.

    Any suggestions are recommended.

BTW: Epson r220 worked real well for me until now, the ink cartridge lasted about 30 inkjet printed dvds and about 25/30 inkjet printed full page high quality glossy dvd covers (which all look really good!)

    Thanks

They are even less at www.megatoners.com

Great ink as well. No problems at all.

Great, I will check them out.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the Glossy DVD inserts? I used the glossy Memorex ones (from Best Buy) they look great, but I am sure there are better deals out there on the net. Much better then the non-glossy regular inserts.

I would look at buying inkjet printable DVD's. You will have a longer lasting product. IMHO

Sorry, I mean glossy DVD Case Inserts (for the DVD box/case). I already use the inkjet printable DVDs with the r220.

    Thanks

supermedia.com sells 50 matted DVD case inserts for between 9.00 and 13.00 with free shipping most of the time and they look pretty damn good coming off my epson or canon.

I bought a set of R200 cartridges (sames as R220, I think) from Supermedia Store and had no problems at all. I also bought a set from an e-bay auction for $16 and they work just fine.

Unlike H-P and Lexmark printers where the nozzles are replaced with each new cartridge, Epson printers can actually be damaged in the long run with 3rd party consumables. But considering that the R200/R220 costs only $100 and a set of OEM cartridges costs $70, it is still more economical to run a couple sets of 3rd party cartridges and scrap the printer than to always use Epson inks.

  8. I use the Universal PhotoFast ink refill kit. You need to purchase the Epson Chip Resetter ($10) to reset the cartridge. I have had excellent results.

The kit comes with a tool to drill a hole in the bottom of the cartridge. I removed the drill bit and put it in my regular drill (better results). Once you refill and reset the chip, you use the yellow cone shapped plug to seal the cartridge. You need to be careful when you drill the hole (straight drilling). I have destroyed one cartridge by not drilling straight into the unit.

You can also do the same to the genic cartridges (with the flat surface on the bottom).

The color kit contains 4 colors; the black kit contains only the black ink; and the light magenta and light cyan can be purchased separately. I buy the kit at Fry's Electronics. They now carry the chip resetter.

Or buy it directly at the universal photofast web site. The bottles have lasted for many refills!
