  1. I've burned several dvds using dvd decrypter to rip the files to my hard drive, and then dvd shrink to get it down to size so it fits on a single-layer disc. My burner is an external toshiba that burns at 8x, i bought it like a year ago. The discs play fine with no problems on my pc, but when i try to play them on my playstation 2, they will all play ok until about 3/4 through the movie, then it will get all jumpy and eventually stop playing. Do you think this is the fault of my discs, the playstation, or my burner maybe? One thing i noticed when burning the discs (and this only started happening recently) is that on nero, when the disc is burning, the buffer will jump up and down from 99% to like 5% and back again, which I thought was kind of weird. Any suggestions?

Firstly I'd take into consideration the PS2s are not the best DVD playback devices - one only has to do a bit of a search here to find many threads stating problems in this area. Seems to mainly be problems with media, and being picky about which media they like. If it seems to get a fair way through the DVD before locking up, then it's quite possibly a heat-associated issue, or crap media.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The "old" PS2 seem pretty picky when it comes to media - but the new slim version is much more tolerant. My slim PS2 plays any (so far) -R disc I've tried, but has problems with +RW.

  5. I'm using memorex 8x discs, and I have the new "slim" ps2, if that helps any. Oh, and my burner is a toshiba odd-dvd sd-r5272. Does it seem weird that my buffer level jumps up and down like that the whole time?

AFAIK, Memorex is just a brand - who's made the discs (what really matters) is anyones guess, and may well differ from batch to batch.
Is it + or -R? Like I said, no -R discs has caused me any troubles on my PSTwo - but then, I never burn beyond 4.2 GB.
Also, I am a DVDDecrypter (/ImgBurn) purist when it comes to burning Video DVD - I never let Nero anywhere near anything besides burning the occational data CD.

  7. I'm using DVD-R discs. I tried playing some older discs that I burned a while ago, and they all played fine. I think I may have burned those ones with dvd decrypter, but I'm not sure. Is it common knowledge that dvd decrypter is better at burning than nero? I think I'll just try burning some of the titles I had trouble with again, but this time using dvd decrypter.

I would dare say so, yes. And I'm sure some would swear on Nero too (but they'd be wrong! )
I have no proof to support this, but as DVDDecrypter works 100 times of 100, I've seen no reason to try anything else.
