In order to play backed up games on DVD-R's on my PS2 what sort of mod chips would i be looking at?
Are any of these capable of doing this?

depending on the version number of your ps2, yes. and, if you can soldier to microscopic points without overheating them and lifting components you're golden. if you are not a mil spec certified assembler then the plug in one is about your only hope. it's problem is that it doesn't boot backups unless it's reprogrammed by some aftermarket bios that is hard to locate.

Is there any mod chip that you could recommend that i can just plug into it and it will play games from DVD-R's?

    Cheers.

yeah right. you really think sony would make it easy? if you have the cash it's best to buy one already chipped unless you don't mind messing up one or two until you get one to work, seriously have you ever seen the size of the components on a ps2 motherboard. pretty darn microscopic.

swap crud never worked for me. had a no-soldier chip at first but it burned out the ps2 laser in a couple months.

ps2's are hard but you ought to see what it takes to mod wii's, had to remove the black ceramic cover off the top of a chip to get at some wires inside it....

  10. I did a ps2 once. It was the sbox, easiest mod to do at the time. But the points were as big as a period .

You can drop solder on them to make them bigger. Easier to get a premod ps2 they are plentiful.

Shop carefully. The man is out there. A local guy was sentenced to 4 years for having Xbox and PS2s in his repair shop; he also had quite a collection of backup games. Not certain which offense was the worse of the two.

PS2 backups are by far the easiest to make. Xbox, Gamecube, Wii, 360 stuff is by the rules only. My son has a PS2 that was chipped by a company up in Chicago - still going two years later.
