I need someone's help. I have a dvd recorder hooked up to a dvd player and I am not able to get video. The audio is fine. I have a clarifier between the player and recorder. This is my fifth recorder so I am quite familiar with set up. In the last month and a half I've had 2 Toshiba DR 4s and 1 DR 5 all displayed video. I returned those and purshased a Pioneer 310. I could not get video and thought it was defective. All I get is a gray screen with audio. My dvd players work fine as well as my monster cables. I now have a sony and I get the same problem. My set up is no different than the original. There is power to the outlets as well. Tv inputs are fine too. I am at a complete loss. Does anyone have the slightest idea what the F is going on?

    Thank you

How many inputs do you have on the latest recorder?

You see no video from the DVD recorder at all? How is it connected to the TV? Or is it that you just can't record video when the input source is the DVD player?

  5. It sounds like Macrovision or you're trying to record a PAL DVD on a NTSC recorder.
Why not use your PC to make a copy?Lots of freeware tools to do that.

    hech 54, I got 2 s video, 1 composite.

Frobozz, actually I get no video from the player. When I use them independently they work. Its just when I try and record a backed up dvd is when I am not able to get video.

Marvingj, The clarifier worked with the Toshiba. I had video but was not able to record HBO. Thats a separate issue. You can add Sony to that list as well. Luckily I still have my old faithful APEX.

MOVIEGEEK, I think it is some kind of MV. I was trying to record a backed up dvd so the PAL/NTSC thing would not be an issue. As for the PC burning I'm not that savvy with my computer yet. I just got a sony pc so hopefully I'll learn soon.

Thanks all for the input. After thinking about it last night and today I came to the conclusion that the MV must be more "advanced" than what my APEX has. I ordered a TBC(avt-8710) and hope it'll work.

    UPDATE
The Pioneer is working fine. I purchased a AVT-8710 and hooked that up to the pioneer. I now am able to get video. As Marvingj said, the Clarifier did not work with the Pioneer.

  8. Hey shakabrah,

Next time please add a subject title that better reflects your problem - that way it is easier for people with the same problem to do a search and whatnot. I'm glad you were able to solve your problem - another way might have been to run the clarifier's signal through another device (like a spare VHS recorder).

BTW I've taken the liberty of changing your title myself.
