  1. Hello!

I have a VHS tape that's not that old but has some
notable noise and dullness. I am not interested
(yet anyway) of putting this on DVD.

Instead, I was wondering if it was possible to clean
up the video by running it through a device of some
sort (between the VCR and the TV)?

I don't know if such a thing exists, but if it does, what
would it be called? What would be some good models?

    Thanks!!!

    Chris

You can start with a good VCR...... That can make a world of difference. See the restoration forum for more info.

You can try to adjust your TV to play the tape (brightness, contrast, color saturation and hue).

Or you can use a "processing amplifier" that makes similar changes to the video signal without misadjusting the TV.

Other devices called "enhancers" attempt to boost preceived detail using a variety of eye tricks like edge enhancement.

See the restoration forum if you want to actually fix the video and record the result.
