    Hi,

i've got an mpeg video file that's been created from a number of individual files (seperate music videos) using Easy Video Joiner. Because this has been compiled from video from different sources the volume levels for each song are all over the place. This file will not play using Windows Media Player (it just crashes the system) but VLC plays it no problem wiith everything in sync. What i have been trying to do is normalise each track so the audio is reasonably consistant thoughout, but having extracted the audio using both Cool Edit Pro and Goldwave the audio consistantly comes out at 7hrs 54 mins, the actual video running time is 7 hrs 20mins.
I am not an expert and i cannot understand why the audio is coming out with a much longer running time than the video when it plays ok through VLC.
Extracting it using Cool Edit shows the video and audio side by side and the audio is longer and playing at a slow speed, i've tried speeding it back up to match the video running time but it stills plays slowly
    Dors anybody have any suggestions?

    thabks

Editing MPEG is not a simple process. Especially if you are combining clips from different sources. I'm not sure if there is a simple fix for your problem. VLC is a great program and will play most anything, even with errors.

Maybe examining the audio track you will find pauses or something that adds up the extra time. You might try resaving the audio first before normalizing. I think your audio editor is trying to 'fix' the bad edits and adding time in.

For MPEG editing any program with the word 'Easy' in it may be a problem. Two MPEG editors that do a decent job are MPEG-VCR and the freeware Cuttermaran program.

  3. madasssmax,

why have you joined the different files in the first place. If you have separate files for separate music video then could easily play them individually either on your PC or CD.

Besides the tools suggested by redwudz, you could also try AVI-MPEG joiner from boilsoft.com
