  1. I downloaded a 7.71 GB DVD already authored to be burned DL. I have a DL burner, I just don't want to drop $18 for 3 discs. So I opened the DVD in DVD Shrink, and under "automatic" it will only compress to 4,754 MB (too big), and I can't remove anything (there is the main segment, and a 60 MB menu), no extra audio tracks, and when I go to "Custom Ratio" DVD Shrink won't let me go below their "automatic" levels, so I can't get it small enough. Any help?

    P.S. - DVD Shrink v. 3.2. Thanks.

DVD2ONE will compress more than DVD Srink. Download the trial and give it a try. It's true you run a sceond time thru DVD Shrink, but quality will suffer.

Yeah, a fan-shot concert. That's why I don't need awesome quality and I want to compress to one DVD+R.

Shrink is a domain transcoder and works by removing what might be considered fat left from the original encode. Once the fat is gone it starts eating into the body. Personally, if Shrink can do it in one pass it is a pretty good sign that there is little fat in the file, and that Shrinking it twice is only going to do more harm than good. If you need to shrink it twice, you really should be considering alternatives such as DVD Rebuilder and properly re-encoding the file instead.

It was a while back when this happened to me but I seem to recall that I had not used deep analysis but that this problem was solved when I did that.

  14. It was fine. As I said, this was video shot of a concert on a miniDV cam. The was not professionally produced for absolute clarity. I didn't need to buy a $6 DVD DL disc to burn it.

I think Wal-Mart's standard price on Verbatim DVD +R DL disks is $12.88 or $12.98 or something like that for a 3-pack. It used to be $19.89 or $19-something. The price just went down recently.
So that's a little over $4.00 per disk, instead of the @$6.00 it used to be.
