  1. I have dvd source files (vobs). I want to take clips from various shows and movies and make a big movie with a dvd authoring program. However, I want a transition between each clip. So clip A is 30 seconds then transition then Clip B and so forth. Each clip is also a chapter in my authoring. Here's my dilemma - if I convert vob files to mpeg (or whatever) I will be encoding. I'm using TMPGEnc Express but no transition features. If I put the MPEG files into Nero Vision so I can put in transitions will it encode the clips again? And then will it get encoded again in the Authoring state? I need a one stop shopping program to convert vobs, add transitions, encode once, and then author.

    Thanks for the consideration

    Hi Bright Knight,

Look into either VideoReDo and / or MPEG Video Wizard - I believe they are both designed to work with MPEG, and will only re-encode the transitions, not the entire footage.
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

mpeg video wizard is quick and easy...if you use a good authoring program it will recognize the video as already being dvd compliant and won't re-encode. you will just have to manually go in and set the chapter points at the transition spots as it will fuse them all into a single mpeg file.

I did this with my back to the future project and except for the shrinking that I had to do in order to make it fit on a DL dvd, no encoding (aka loss of quality) occurred.

  4. Thanks a lot - I'll give the wizard a try and see how that works. Sounds promising, much appreciated.
