Hi, i'm not new to encoding & authoring avi/xvid to dvd.
I have been doing it for a while now on Windows XP with no problems & been watching the DVD's with no prob.. I was using the following software:
Mainconcept MPEG Encoder to encode the files: (loved that program really easy & quick)
TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6 to Author them.
Finally was using Nero to burn.
As I say been going sweet on XP.
I've now got a new pc with Vista Home Premium 32bit (10 days ago) & not so sweet maybe![]()
Yesterday I found Mainconcept wouldn't load on Vista so I loaded TMPGEnc plus 2.5 to encoded the avi file I think it was. No probs it done it in 40 mins!
I then Loaded TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, (seemed to set up ok) it authored the file fine.
I finally burnt with Nero, all done , no problem.
However after that my pc decided to run like a Pentium 1 machine in need of a service (slow aint the word!)
So i uninstalled both TMPGEnc programs & the xvid codec (XviD-1.1.3-28062007), of which I wasnt sure of the compatibility to Vista and after cleaning the registry 2 or 3 times with different software & rebootiong over & over again it now seems ok. (fingers crossed)
I have now found another set of codecs which are def Vista compatible & installed.
Do I install Tmpgenc plus 2.5 & DVD Author 1.6 & chance it again or can someone confirm that these are NOT compatible with Vista Home Premium 32bit & I need to upgrade my software.
If I need to change software could anyone advise me as to what? Would be really interested in what everyone else is using on Vista to Encode avi/xvid file to DVD & then author them
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Paul

Most all of those programs should run fine on Vista. Though I'm not sure about Main Concept. But I have used versions of the MC encoder. For a Vista compatibility list, see here: http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Software_Compatibility_List
With most programs, you want to use 'Run as administrator' when you install them.
I would also use ImgBurn to burn your videos. Nero does OK, but generally ImgBurn is more dependable and doesn't try to re-encode like Nero often does. And with Vista you need Nero 7 or higher most times to avoid problems. I don't use Nero at all anymore.
The Xvid codec, TMPGEnc DVD Author and TMPGEnc 2.5 all work fine with Vista. I don't know what caused your 'slowdown'. But I would use 'Run as administrator' when installing any of them.
And welcome to our forums. -
Thanks for your reply. so I presume I get the "'Run as administrator' " option when I install them?

When you R click on the installer program you will see that option to 'Run as administrator'. I'm using TMPGEnc Plus 2.59.47.155 with Vista with no problems. I do have Mainconcept 1.04.01.00 encoder on one of my Vista computers.
