That's sorta been thrashed around here: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=284533
Why not make it a poll if you want to get a statistical number of how many use each of the more popular ones.
BTW, AVG mostly. -
I use AVG on all my systems.

Free versions of AVG on all my computers and AVAST. I no longer use NORTONS SYSTEMWORKS w/ANTIVIRUS because it's a resource hog. Although I do install the NORTONS UTILITES to use the SPEED DISK & WINDOCTOR.

Best A/V? NOD32 get very good reviews..When i swithched from Norton..i installed and ran it, it found stuff Norton didn't.
I use ZoneAlarm Security Suite..I believe the A/V part uses the Kapersky engine. Been fine, with the top firewall too..not had any problems. Supposedly-as with NOD32- it less drain on processor too.
Neither are free...but can be aquiredThe laziest man I ever met put popcorn in his pancakes so they would turn over by themselves!! -
AVG for me, and its free!
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
Another vote for AVG from me. Never had a problem with it, but occasionally run McAfee Stinger as backup.

Well, AVG caught some things my old Norton had missed. So I'm pretty pleased with AVG right now, just switch last week.

Google AV comparisons and check 'em out yourself. -
Statistically, how many times has this question been asked?
McAffee and AVG. -
Yet another thread about best antivirus. Come on. Haven't got anything better to do????????

Just curious. Did any of the Anti-virus program pick up the Sony Rootkit virsus before all this broke a couple of weeks ago?
-
AV apps do not detect rootkits (yet). i only know of one that will remove them and three that will only help to detect them. As they become more "popular" av will start to detect/remove them in the future, much like av is now starting to detect/remove malware, although its still best to have both av and malware apps

Firewall should catch rootkits.

firewalls wont catch rootkits. rootkits can hide from and manipulate window components. even some trojans and viruses can bypass firewalls.

I was using norton for quite a long time. I had just upgraded to NAV 2005 in July. Ever since, it was giving me problems. It didn't always load the auto-protect; it would not load auto-protect when I would try to manually turn it on and it wouldn't even let me activate it. I switched to AVG Free. It works great. I have replaced NAV on all my systems with Grisoft.

Avast is one of the best, works good for me. It doesn;t take as many resources as norton

not sure what "auto-load software" is but rootkits can run at the kernel level and can not easily be detected by current detection/monitering tools including a firewall. hacker defender came out a year ago and it could use a common tcp port. they are getting much more sophisticated these days.
