  1. Hi. I have been searching around for tutorials and read many of them, but it's too much for me, i'm a total noob with these things. They just got me really confused.
I have a movie with all the usual files, VOBs, BUPs, and IFOs.
I got Finnish language srt file, I want to put finnish subtitles in the movie and burn it on DVD and watch it on bigger TV.
So what is the easiest way to put the subtitles there? I have Downloaded MANY different programs and messed with things, I have tried many things and i just don't get it.
I assume that if I burn that srt file with the movie won't work.

I don't understand how to make DVD player read that subtitle file.
Can anyone give me directions? i have messed around with virtual dub, subtitle workshop, subrip, Vobsub and whatnot.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Finnishplayer,

    Welcome to the forums.

Before replying, I should say that I've never needed to do this so can't give you a definitive answer on how to do what you want to do.

However, I'll still try to help by providing info on what I think I would do... I'll put keywords in italics - stuff for you to look up and read up on...

Firstly, as you've got VOBs etc. the (selectable) subtitles are typically joined in with these during authoring.

I would use something like DVDLab (maybe DVDLab Pro) to load up the VOB files and combine them with your subtitle files and author to a new set of VOBs, but now with your subtitles in.

I don't know what format the subtitles have to be in for DVDLab (Pro), or whether it takes subtitles from a file. I do know that it can work with subtitles, but not sure if they have to be manually entered.

So, there's some ideas there and something for you to research. I wish you luck...
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

    Carpe diem.

If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much room.

    DVD-lab pro will import subtitles, has 30 day free trial. Here is the guide;

    Hope this helps.

  4. guys thank you so much, i will look into it. I'll just go to sleep first, my head is too messed up from studying this matter
Wow there are some kind people on this board, I think I'm too used to Gamefaqs XD
I got DVD lab pro earlier and tried things with it, but they didn't work.
I think i'll figure this out sooner or later.
But any other ideas from anyone are welcome. Thanks in advance!

    From where?
    1. It is possible that your VOBs have already subtitles (maybe with other languages)
    2. Are you sure that your SRT file 'fits' to these VOBs (concerning video system PAL/NTSC, timing...)

If you are interessted in a freeware solution, you can try GUI for dvdauthor or dvdauthorgui. Both support SRT subtitles.
