I picked this up 2 weeks ago and have been successfully converting tapes.

However, I have a few pre-recorded VHS tapes that have not been released on DVD, so I am excersizing my right of Fair Use to make DVD backups.

Unfortunately, I am getting rising and falling contrast, which I assume is Macrovision.

I have read a few posts from people who say they have defeated it by holding down the select swtich for about 20 seconds until either the colorbars blink or the select LEDs blink... I have tried both but had no luck.

Other posts say it can't be done.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I have a ADVC-100 which is reported to block Macrovision. Mine doesn't. Apparently the early models did. I really doubt the 110 does. I think the 'powers that be' put a stop to that. I use a Macrovison blocker that I bought some 10 years ago for $20US on the rare Macrovision VHS tapes I have. These are still available at an increased price.

That was the first question I asked. I think it was determined that the 110 does not defeat macro. It's in a thread around here somewhere on the search. However, the DAC-100 which is very similar, does. That's what I use new off ebay $150.

  4. I have the ADVC-110 and it does defeat Macrovision by pressing on the switch button until the colorbar blinks. I was able to convert my VHS videos and Macro-protected VHS movies into DVDs.

I can defineltey testify that when *I* press the select button, no matter how long, the color bars do NOT blink.

Maybe some people out there have a 110 with older firmware and got lucky.

  6. I dont know what else to say except that the colorbar blink works for me. I bought the 110 to be able to convert to dvd or vcd the macro-protected vhs tapes like this one I bought 5 years ago, "Spirit - A journey in dance drums and song."
