This is my first post to this forum so hopefully this is the right one to post it in.. I have an avi file with a ratio of 640x272. i want to convert it so i can put in into a dvd authoring program and i want to keep the same aspect without stretching it. i manually put in that ratio when converting it and TMPGEnc DVD Author gave me a list of acceptable ratios for the dvd none of which come anywhere near the correct aspect and looks like crap on the tv due to stretching. i put in 16:9 in the converter and it made it a little closer but still not perfect. Any suggestions would be great thanks a lot

Try using the target of 704x480 (a compatible NTSC dvd resolution).
Also whatever program you use to convert the avi to mpg make sure you tell it the file was 16:9 and to "keep the aspect ratio". That should make it widescreen and not stretch the video.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Resize to 720x272 and add 104 lines to the top and bottom to get a full 480 lines. Encode the result as 4:3 DVD.
I don't know TMPGEnc DVD Author but I know TMPGEnc Plus and it probably has similar settings. Set the source aspect ratio to "1:1 VGA", the Video Arrange Method to "Full screen, keep aspect ratio", then encode as 4:3 DVD. -
