I am new to this site and need some help please. I am running DVD Shrinks 3.2. For the 1st several months I had no problems whatsoever and was able to shrink and burn a DVD in about 28 minutes. Now it takes 2-3 hours even after clearing out the "Bits and Bytes". I have done a full clean up on my computer and yet it is still taking 2-3 hours to shrink and burn. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I dont know what I am missing or what I can do to clear this problem. All help is greatly appreciated. I am running Windows XP and have 512MB in memory and 80 Ghz hard drive.

    Thanks

  2. Is your drive in DMA mode or could it have fallen into PIO mode? How many things are you running in the background with XP? How much space do you have left on the hard drive and what is your pagefile size? Have you defragmented your drive recently?

All of these are things to look for for Shrink running slowly.

  4. Have you activated the following settings by mistake ?

If you have these activated it will take a lot longer to produce your DVD because it is attempting to enhance the quality which obviously takes longer !

If still no luck , you may have something nasty lurking in your pc , a virus or trojan .

Use avg free , and addaware to confirm none of these are hiding on your pc , then try again .

Xp by default will use dma mode for hard drive , to check this , go to control panel , system , hardware , device manager , locate ide , open the plus to view all devices attached , then right click the first one listed and sellect properties .

Under advanced settings tab you will find what xp is using , default is dma .

As for free space required , the minimum for system is 520mbs , but you must also remember what the default size is for the recycly bin .

If drive is 80gig , and recycle bin is set to 10% , this is 8gig + 520mbs required free space , before you do anything , xp will warn you if you run into this problem when trying to store files to any partition .

The recycle bin may pop up an xp warning , though this happens rare , if it dose , provided you dont go near that minimum 520mbs , you can just ignor that warning .

Another possibility is the hard drive is not performing well , how old is it ? .

Check the cable attached to it , it could be a possible source of whats holding the pc back , cables can just slowly degrade over time .

Also check what junk you may have installed , shareware and trialware , some of these mess the registry about , which will cause the pc to slow right down , you may find some xp tools over at www.downloads.com , freeware , that may help locate registry entires that could be causing this problem . I have tried a couple , and they work well , just remember when running regedit from the start , run command , to export your entire registry as a backup before using any such tools , this way you can reverse any problem .

    Always back it up ...
