    First: The setup:

    LaCie D2 16x + Lightscribe
    Toast 7.01
Philips DVP 642/17 (updated to latest firmware)

    Then, the Problem:

I just received the LaCie as a gift, and am trying desperately to burn a DVD; so far without success. The player has no problems playing store-bought DVDs, but when I insert any of my burned disks, I get the "NO DISK" error. I have burned an avi to a cd-rom, and it played without a hitch on the player, so I think the burner is OK.

    The Media:

    I have used
    Apple DVD-R,
    HP-Lightscribe DVD+R, HP DVD-R (which I hear are garbage),
    and one Verbatim DVD+R

The DVDs I have burned, almost without exception, play fine on my Mac, but the player will not see them. (I even tried using DragonBurn, also without success.)

Is this as simple as a media problem? I had high-hopes for the Verbatim DVD+R, which did not work--though I did burn that at 8X.

If so, is there a reliable media out there that I can buy readily at a Staples or CompUsa? I hear good things about Sony media, but it is hard to tell whether it is taiyo yuden from the label. I would like to find a media that works well before I invest in getting a pile of disks.

If there is something else I have missed, please let me know; I don't know anything about bit-setting (or whatever it is called), and do not know if I can even do this on a Mac (nor do I know how to find the mechanism in the drive--Pioneer or NEC). However, it seems to me that it would not be necessary; no one else has issues with this player.

    Any and all help appreciated

Are you burning "DVD-Video" or a Mac (or PC) disc? The latter will play fine on your Mac but won't be seen in a set-top DVD player.

Also add Sony DVD+R, and Memorex DVD-R (Raitek)... They all verify fine in Toast, but nothing reads in the DVP-642, while they all read on the Mac. I even tried using Toast 6.
