  1. any players that will allow 1080i upconverted signal topass through teh component cables? or any known hacks to make this work?

    There is a player in Walmart now that upconverts. All do it through HDMI or DVI. This feature is mostly for connector matching, not image quality.

    Don't expect any higher quality on a typical HDTV set using upconversion of 720x480 DVD to 1080i. Most sets get better results with 480p (720x480 progressive 60 frames per second).

    It all depends on the HDTV you have and the way it scales 480p vs 1080i.

    That list shows all players with HDMI and component video out, but do they allow for upconverting and sending the 1080i stream through the compnent video out as well as HDMI/DVI?
