somewhat related to my recent topic here. I have a few videos here that I also need converted to wmv. im not getting any errors in WME at all. but the problems im running into are out of sync audio and video, low volume, and probably a good minute chopped off the end of the video.

first I tried a direct ogm to wmv conversion (using the oggDS filters). but it had very low volume and was REALLY out of sync.

second time I tried sending the ogms through tmpgenc first and then take the mpg's and convert to wmv. tmpgenc also allowed me to increase the volume. its only slightly out of sync (not BAD, but noticeable. i can deal with it), but it also seems to be chopping off the last minute or so of the video every time (note: wme seems to do this. the mpg is complete. is it possible that using VBR in the mpeg encoding process is causing this?)

    any ideas? im confused.

actually, I think I pretty much figured out this one on my own (well, atleast until I can test the resulting video). thankfully ive only got a small handful of ogms in my posession so its not going to be terribly painful.

essentially what ive done is use mencoder to convert the ogms to avi. then i went into virtualdub and saved the wav audio of each video. took the wav files into goldwave and did a maximize volume and resaved as wav with mp3,128k,44khz compression. then back to vdub, use the wav audio and do direct stream copy for both vid and aud and save out the avi file.

currently the one computer is chugging away in goldwave doing the audio conversion in a large batch. once it finishes I can test one of the videos and make sure everything is all hunky dorey.

Just saw your post. Your method is about what I have used. It's been a while. I believe I just used VirtualDub Mod. The sound was the harder part, though I think I used the 0gg filter and saved out the sound as a WAV, then converted to MP3 with Audacity after extensive filtering and normalizing. I didn't go to WMV. The video was Xvid and no problem. Took me a long time to figure out the audio.

bah. now the audio and video is out of sync again. it seems to be fine right at the beginning, but further on its probably a good 2 seconds out of sync.
any ideas on what I can do to correct this?

well, I think I finally found atleast a decent solution for these few files. convert with mencoder as usual. but send the resulting avi through WME right away. to fix the volume, i went into the properties panel in WME, plugins tab, and added the "Compressor" audio plugin and upped the gain a bit. seems to do the job pretty well. and everything is well synced (well, its still a tiny bit out of sync, but it is perfectly watchable atleast compared to the 2 secs out of sync i got before).
