  1. I need to convert DVD to VHS. I have a DVD drive in the computer.

I have a DV camcoder, DV-cam to VCR cable and a DV capture card. Thus theoretically I playback a DVD, have it output to DV-cam through firewire and use DV-cam to VCR cable to record to VHS. The only thing I need to find out is how to output DVD playback to firewire.

Does anyone know how or what program I can use for this ?

Does your videocard have a video output jack? Just hook that up to your vcr and hook the audio out of your soundcard.

Though macrovision will be a problem on commercial dvds. Or you could rip it to your harddrive and select macro-free. (assuming of course you own the dvd in question and are just converting the format ).
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. thanks.
it's my own DVD, I made it, so there are no copyright issues.
My videocard doesn't have video outputs.
I generally use firewire port on the soundcard to capture video.

I can output video from Premiere Pro through firewire to camcoder. However, Premiere Pro doesn't like VOB files.
Thus I can convert VOB to AVI, import AVI to Premiere and play them back through firewire. But I was hoping there is a way to avoid the conversion. Especially when conversion will take a few extra hours.

EDIT: what I did was to record VHS to AVI, and then output AVI through premiere to VHS. I needed to copy a few VHS tapes to VHS tapes and don't have 2 VCRs. I did find a DVD for one of the tapes though, so that's why I was looking for a quick way to bypass VHS to AVI.
