  1. I'm trying to extract some audio from a couple files for use in conversion to VCD and DVD and Virtual Dub is giving me an error: No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format. (source format tag: 0055) I checked with AVIcodec and it comes up that the audio is regular mp3 format and is supported. Furthermore the files can be watched with no problem. If someone could help me it would be great. Thanks.

    Hi Magikx21,

How are you trying to extract the audio? Describe what you're doing in VirtualDub.

What format do you want to end up with from VirtualDub?

It may well be VBR MP3 - have you tried OK-ing (ignoring) the error message and continuing?
There is some corner of a foreign field that is forever England: Telstra Stadium, Sydney, 22/11/2003.

  3. In VirtualDub I'm putting the audio into full processing mode, turning it to no compression and converting it to either 44 or 48. Then I just save it as a wav.

Also there is no clicking OK. It gives the error message as soon as I hit save wav and stops.

  5. I tried Goldwave and when I open the files it opens the decompressing window and when it gets to 100% the time remaining starts to gain time and keeps going.

    If in doubt, Google it.

  7. After leaving the file sit for 2 months I figured out my problem. This problem must be something with Virtual Dub because WinAvi converted the file perfectly. I tried other converters and audio extracters and with them the audio always ended early.
