  1. hi,

    situation:
five 15-min long subtitled (switchable) dvds (actually clips) with no menu whatsoever. each dvd includes video, audio, subs

    goal:
authoring a new dvd that includes the five clips (video, audio, subs) and at least a simple menu. i don't want no subs OCRing since each of them has a differente style that i would like to keep. keeping the original subs is a must. hopefully, a nice dvd authoring program should be able to support importing a dvd-video (video, audio, subs) straightforward when that dvd-video has no menus etc.

    so far:
    • a. nerovision latest release doesn't support text or graphic subtitle streams.
      b. adobe encore latest release doesn't support graphic subtitle streams.
      c. dvdlab pro latest release doesn't support graphic subtitle streams (just .bmp).
      d. seemingly dvdauthorgui can deal with .sup subtitles (graphic) and do some simple authoring.
      e. it's nice to see dvdshrink re-author option lets you add as many clips as you want (video, audio, subs) and then create a new dvd. sadly, there's no option to create a menu. that'd be top!

    question posed:
if you've been under this situation, could you post and tell about your experience? do you know ho overcome this issue?

    i appreciate your attention,

I'd use DVDAuthorGUI. It can do "everything", but you might have to tinker with the XML file to fine tune it.
I think GUI for DVDAuthor also supports .sup subtitles.
On second thought - can't SubRip rip to BMP's? Then you can use DVD-Lab Pro!

  3. hi,

i haven't been able to create the dvd-video i inted to with dvdauthorgui. in the end, it doesn't create the video_vs files required. it seems to me it has to do with a bug perhaps. i've already emailed the author.

gui for dvdauthor is a brand new tool to me! thanks for letting me know about it. and yes, since v0.96 "Support for subtitles in SUP format (using pxsup2dast)".

i'll keep you all informed in this thread.

    greetings,

  4. you could use Shrink to reauthor, then follow this guide to add the menu:

look at the second example 1/2 way down which talks about creating a menu for multiple VTSs.

Just tried ripping to BMP with SubRip, saving as Sonic Scenarist .sst format, and DVD-Lab Pro reads it fine.

In case of any questions or trouble, just ask. The last candidate (with 'problematic' sup files) has given up unfortunately. And I would be highly interested if my new sup2png tool (included in GfD since Version 0.97) can deal now with 'critical' sup files (where pxsup2dast fails).
