Did you use some good disks?

  3. Used to have this problem when I first started burning DVD's. My problem was that, as a newbie, I went out and got the greatest "bargains" that I could when obtaining blank DVD media. It turns out that you get what you pay for in that invariably my "good deal" media would error out near the end of the disc, with large quantities of CRC errors, etc.

I finally decided that I was better off spending a nickel to a dime more per disc and get a good quality blank that would almost always give me a good burn.

I've recently settled on the Taiyo Yuden Value Media, the TY01's that you get in a pack of 100. Only 4X media, but it burns quite nicely at 8X on my burner.

The problem could be the layer change which is around the half way mark. When playing the original in your DVD player and it stops somewhere near half way, you can almost be sure the layer change is causing the problem.

  5. Bad media + burning at high speed = %90, other reasons = %10

He's not talking about burning to blank media, he's talking about not being able to encode the original DVD. I DVDs I was referring to were unmarked, in good condition and would not switch to layer 2 ..ie.. about half way through the movie it simply stopped. It stopped in the same place using Shrink, Decrypter and in my DVD player.

I believe the layer change was at the end of chapter 20 and it refused to encode 21. When replaying that DVD I skipped forward past chapter 21 and the rest of the movie played to the end without any problems.

I'm certain the problem is the same as I experienced and the layer change was most certainly the culprit.

Either way I think we all gave some good suggestions.
