Hi
I am trying to convert a avi file with resolution of 576 x 432 and a ratio of 1.333 (4:3). when i try to convert that file to SVCD using DVD2SVCD by setting the ratio of 1.333 (4:3), i get 2 horizontal black bars on the border when played in powerDVD. Also the quality isnt that great, after doing 6 passes on tmpgenc all i get is small little boxes around the subject. ofcourse the video wouldnt look like an original dvd but it should atleast look like the original avi.

576x432 should be great for SVCD.
The ideal resolution would be 640x480 (or higher), but 576x432 should be pretty good.
Anyways, I assume you are converting with TMPGEnc. Go to video arrange method and set it to Full Screen. This way, the movie will fill the image and there shouldnt be any black bars.
Although keep in mind that SVCD does have a lower resolution than DVD, so the quality will not be the same. However, if encoded properly, if the quality of the source material is good enough, you should have a SVCD that looks like a DVD when you watch it. VCD and SVCD have relatively low resolutions, and they therefore generally look better on a television than a computer monitor, because the tv also has a lower rez than what your monitor is.asdf -
