  1. Sorry for the long title but I have a question I can't seem to find the answer to. What codec should I use to encode an avi file to dvd (mpg2?) using virtualdub only? Could someone tell me how and what settings to use to get the best result.

    Thanks for listening!

You don't use VirtualDub for that.

You would FRAMESERVE to a "real" MPEG encoder such as CCE or TMPGEnc or Mainconcept MPEG encoder etc.

You *COULD* use virtualdub and something like YMPEG, but I only said that because it's possible. It's certainly not the way most people would go about it.

Your best bet is to frameserve to a dedicated encoder.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Could also use ffdshow, but as said I wouldn't recommend it.

  5. Why I said virtualdub is because it was simple to add ssa subtitles with averly lee filter. but if there is a filter like everly lee to TMPGenc then that would be great and I know how to encode etc...

No, You use VirtualDub (or even better: AviSynth) to filter (which includes adding subs to) the AVI which in turn is frameserved to the mpeg encoder (like TMPGEnc). That way you use VDub for it's intended purpose, and TMPGEnc for what it's intended for.
Here's a link to how to frameserve with VirtualDub.
