  1. Is this not politically correct or...?

I can't find any mention of burning from the MDS file and the I00, etc files that are created with it the first time I used DVDShrink.

I pointed DVD Decryptor to the MDS file, burned it and it worked. Should I use ISO for better quality or is this just a preference with no real advantage/disadvantage?

All the guides seem to reference ISO files but I never had one... at least not to my knowledge

Iso or MDS - it's all the same. The MDS is just a descriptor file, telling (in this case) DVDDecrypter what to burn. (The I00 file in this case.) The advatage over ISO, is that if your file system can't handle a full DVD as one file, the data for a DVD can be split up into several smaller files, and pieced together at "burn time".

  3. hey you may be on to something as far as my setup goes. i got a warning somewhere along all this in a log somewhere that said there was a problem with single files > 4GB. i was like what the heck... and continued on. then i realized i had several I00 files 1.x GB big. maybe it chose MDS because of that? either way, i guess i have to use mds or some other format that'll allow multiple files like you say, right?

i wonder why the 4GB limit... is that a win2k or FAT32 thing? i purposefully formatted all my drives/partitions with FAT32 instead of NTFS b/c i wanted to be able to access my 2k partition with win98.

Well there ya go - you've got FAT32 so that's why you get the MDS file. FAT32 cannot support single files over 4GB in size, and the MDS file tells DVDDecrypter how to piece together several smaller files.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. yeah that sucks. no problems yet but i just have a feeling that one day it's gonna mess me up. if there's an app out there that'll let win98 access ntfs files, even for running programs from my current 2k partition, then maybe i can convert 2k to ntfs.

guess i'll wait till i get another hd to redo all this mess. i only have 15GB or so left anyway.

DVD Decrypter will automatically take the MDS file, even if you click on the ISO. Some versions would give you a pop up with a friendly scolding telling you to pick the MDS next time, other versions just pick the MDS anyway.
