    Hi,

    I tried opening an AVI file (ASF format) using VirtualDub13c
    However, VirtualDub gave me an error message:
    Cannot find decompressor for MPG4 file format.

    I have the latest Windows Media Player as well as Divx 4.11
    codec, so why do I still get this error message???

    Hope you kind people can help.

    I had the same problem, don't know if this is the right fix or not. Try downloading the SMR patch. For some reason it god rid of the error for me. Merry XMAS.

    You need the Microsoft MPEG-4 codecs as the regular codecs won't work.

    thanks for your replies.
    I will download the smr patch.
    isn't the Microsoft MPEG-4 codec found together with the Windows Media Player 7.1?
