I have what was labeled on the box "Pioneer DVR-A09XL" 16x dvd burner...

Windows reports this drive to be a DVR-109...

which is it? was it misflashed maybe? should my A09XL report as a A09XL? or a DVR-109?

So confused... Can someone help? Please?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows what's up and is will to share!

XL model has honeycomb shape on top. Its only differs physically, otherwise they are the same drive. My XL is also reported as a DVR-109.

XL should look like (this is the silver model):

  3. Also, be aware that the firmware is different. The A09XL allows use of the Quietdrive utility and disables the riplock.
Still a few bugs in the system...

hmmmk... the drive matches the pic posted... When I run Pioneers firmware check should it tell me 109 firmware? or A09XL firmware?

Thanks for the info, by the way... this whole thing has been really confusing.

  5. If you are running Pioneer firmware from their site, it has always stopped the process if you were using the wrong firmware. If your drive looks like the image it is most likely the A09XL. I would try the Pioneer Quietdrive utility from their site. If it recognizes your drive that confirms it.
