I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  3. Assuming you mean a semi transparent logo like image like those seen on the major networks and cable stations (usually sitting in the lower right corner of the screen), you can get this effect with either Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express or iMovie. You need to create an alpha channel mask (in Photoshop or similar software; the open source GIMP will do this also). Then in the video editing app of choice you will load the masked image as a track. Depending on the application you can change the opacity, color.

In other words it's a still image that is mapped to every frame of the film. Usually the image is mono colored and semi tansparent so the image benath shows through. If the logo is only made of text, you can possibly do it in Livetype, or possible iMovie's title tool (though I've not tried it). For example, you could crerate a title that reads HBO and have it appear in the lower corner and fade the type via a mask.

I agree. Final Cut would be the easiest way to do this. Save out a .psd file and you can place it where you want in the video track and it'll be there for the entire length.

    Yeah, probably.
If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

You can add the watermark as a simple composite if you bring it in from Photoshop with an alpha channel. This will work in most NLEs.

If you happen to have Compressor, you can add the watermark at transcode time and save the rendering/duplication in your editor.

it's also possible to add a watermark as a subtitle image in DVD Studio Pro, but the capabilities are more linited.
