splitting movies

hi
i have this problem regarding audio and video sync when splitting
tried to split a movie file with divx and mpg for audio i think
i used avi/mpg splitter and tmpg to split the file
so everything runs fine while converting, i chose the start and end position of the movie.
the problem occurs when i play the file, the starting position of the video is a few seconds before what i actually chose during the conversion while the audio runs normally thus the video and audio is not in sync.
i got the idea of uncompressing the whole movie and then splitting, then recompress but my harddisk space is limited.

I found splitting and editing mpegs had audio sync problems everytime no matter what i used until i tried videredo.This is all i use now.There are other programs out there,a search on this site will give you all the info you need.
