I saw this tv on the Walmart site and want to know if it's worth buying? If I buy it; it will replace a 20" screen in my bedroom. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=3757024&cat=108511&type=19&dept=3...A3996%3A108511

It's priced reasonably. Can you live with yourself if you shop at Walmart? Check this Puliter Prize winning article: http://www.pulitzer.org/year/2004/national-reporting/works/walmart1.html
To determine the 'proper' screen size, use this formula: measure the distance from the screen to your viewing location, then divide by six*. The result will be the 'proper' screen height.
*Use five if you prefer a slightly bigger screen, use seven if you prefer a slightly smaller screen. -
That is a very interesting article. Walmart wants to build a supercenter in my town and close the Walmart we have now. A lot of people are against it.

one thing you should be aware of with this type of lcd --
standard def. , like most cable -- looks like total crap .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
For a REAL exposé on Sam Walton, I recommend In Sam We Trust by Bob Ortega.

Right now there's a law suit in my city because the Council and the citizen's don't want them building a 2nd store (SuperCenter). Lots of other cities nearby don't want them either. It seems the only place they are being welcomed is in very small towns with high unemployment.
BJ_M is right about LCD. You might want to consider a CRT or DLP TV, if you have the space. -
I live in a small town and some people want it and some don't. The town commitee wants it so I think we will get it unless Walmart changes their mind. The reason I'm looking at LCD tvs is I want a wide screen tv with a small footprint. When I replace the main tv I'm going to look into DLP. Right now I'm just looking but if I find a deal I like I will buy.Originally Posted by Epicurus8a

In that case, you might want to consider this one: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?prodid=11043901&whse=BC&topnav=&cat=3316&hierPath=79*2341*
It's $350 plus tax and shipping from costco.com. If you're not a Coscto member you can still buy it, but they charge a bit more. The TV is okay, but not great. What is great is the Costco return policy: anytime within a year. -
I'm not a member but there is a Costco near the mall I go to alot. Next time I go I'll check to see what the have on display. I am a member of BJs so I can check them out too. I'm not in a hurry so I can look around more before I decide.

When they measure a wide screen tv do the measure them the same way as a regular tv?
-
in the usa - yes ...
on the angle - the complete panel or tube , in Canada it is only the visible portion ."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
In CA they only allow members into Costco Stores. Unless the rules are different where you live, you'll have to buy it online. IMO, their return policy can't be beat!Originally Posted by hudsonf

I took care of my wide screen tv questions for awhile. I bought a Toshiba Notebook Computer instead. It was on sale at Office Depot for $599.00 after a mail-in rebate.

Yeah;I wish! It's the Satellite L25-S119 with a 15" screen.Originally Posted by Epicurus8a
