  1. Hi,

I have just updated my version of ffmpegx on my powerbook G4.

Having grabbed some video in DV using iMovie I tried to convert to divx and xvid but keep getting a failed warning after conversion with the following meesage:

Unsupported codec (id=0) for input stream #0.1

When I look in my destination folder there are two files - a video file without sound and an mp3 file of zero kb.

When preparing ffmpegx to convert to either format I have left the audio settings as 128kb mp3 stereo. The original file has the following info in the audio box:

    0x61766476, 32000 Hz, stereo

    Can anyone help?

    Full process info:

  2. Bumping!

    can no-one help with this?

I assume that I'll have to find an alternative then. Or should I use an earlier version of ffmpegx?

  3. Apparently the codec is not recognized. Try with ffmpegX 0.0.9s at http://homepage.mac.com/major4/ffmpegX_0.0.9s.dmg or, if no difference, use Quicktime Player to export your file as MOV, with MJPEG A video codec and No Compression audio codec, and encode that one instead.

when you are in imovie, you need to export your movie using the DV STREAM selection. Select DV, 48khz locked, 4:3. Use no other compression features. Once you get the completed .dv file, you can then encode that .dv file into a xvid or divx .avi on ffmpegx. Use ffmpegX to open the .dv file, select your approriate options (usually 512x384 on 4:3 ratio). ffmpeg encoder (instead of mencoder) seems to work on both mac and pc's divx movies.

I also found this great advice:

(Mencoder - tested works on mac but not on pc divx)
It is very important, that you do NOT choose the "Full Quality DV" Setting when exporting from iMovie. This just makes iMovie glueing the 2GB chunks together in which it records movies. Mencoder can't handle that. Here's what to do: Choose "Expert settings". Click "Export". Choose "Movie to Quicktime Movie". Click "Options". In "Video Settings" choose "DV PAL" (or NTSC, if you are on that TV System). In the Audio settings, choose uncompressed 48khz Stereo. Uncheck "Prepare for Internet streaming". Make sure the output file has .mov as extender. Now the recording is reencoded as a single movie which Mencoder will encode completely as AVI.

    (ffmpeg)

Imovie > Export to Quicktime > Expert settings > Movie to DV Stream (NTSC audio locked @ 48khz)
