    Hi,
during the summer I videotaped people swimming for a school project. Its the first time I filmed an event. The tripod i brought that day, makes a lot of noise when panning. Sort of like a creaking sound, and constant, whenever i pan. I've tried using Adobe Audition Pro 1.5 and Goldweave to remove the noise using the pop/click eliminator but none of these options worked. I have the video and audio in Premiere Pro. For some scenes i know i can fade it out, but for example when someone is diving, and the creaking noise happens i wouldn't want to fade it out. If anyone has any suggestions on how to tweak this, it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Raj

Well, for the next time, I would suggest a little lubricant on the moving surfaces.

For this time, you can try to cut sound from one dive and paste it over the noise on another dive. I've have some success with this method.

CoolEdit 2000 has a noise filter based on a piece of the recorded noise. You can try to record just the noise, then use this function on noisy sections. Audition is an offshoot of CE2K, so it should have this function.

You probably will not be able to restore the audio completely, since the noise is quite louder than the audio you want to capture. As a suggestion, copy the audio of someone else diving (at another time), and insert that into the spot where the creak occurs. More than likely, no one would know the difference.

cheap tripods are as much trouble as no tripods...after fighting with a cheapo tripod i'd rather just hold the camera...the pans are jerky, the thing makes noise, and if you're just holding the tripod and perhaps are nervous cause it's an important shot then any unsteadiness of hand transfers right to the camera anyways..so much for your steady shot.

so i say all that to say this..get a sturdy, fluid head tripod and your films will no longer make people sick...they will also be better suited for mpeg compression.
