  1. Greetings Fellow Members!
I've recently located into a house with three rooms already wired for satellite TV. I have a DirecTV Receiver connected in two of the three rooms. The satellite cable from outside the house goes to a three-way splitter which feeds the individual rooms.
Due to the way DirecTV designed their channel scheme, a Receiver can't tune a channel located on an odd Transponder while another Receiver tunes to a channel located on an even Transponder at the same time. Unfortunately, I only have one cable that accesses the outside of the house even though the satellite dish has a dual-LNB.
Is there a way I can use that one master cable for each DirecTV Receiver I have in the house without resorting to switchers or drilling holes through walls to have a second cable into the house? I'd like to watch any channel on the Receivers without any worry that it might affect the channel on the other Receiver. Thanks for everyone's help on this issue.

You need to use the LNB dish or get a signal splitter/switch. And not the $.99 splitters like you use on your cable. You need the $100+ splitter designed for SAT tv use.

  3. Greetings!
This would be fine if I had two cables going into the house. However, I only have one cable. Does that mean I need to route another cable into the house to be able to watch from two or more Receivers?

Then climb on the roof and add another one. You must have another LNB ($25-50). If you need more than a dual LNB, you have to get a diplexer ($99-200) placed in the attic (fed by a dual LNB!), for either 4 or 8 output.

Or better yet, you're paying for the service, get those lazy DTV bastards out to your house and make them install it. It's part of what you pay for at installation (sometimes promos even do it free).

  6. Thanks for all your replies! DirecTV is actually visiting this week to install a new satellite dish so we can get more channels. I'll have them do the roof climbing (and drilling, routing, etc.) when they come.
