  1. I was installed the VirtualDub v1.6.10, VirtualDub-MPEG4 v1.6.10 and VodSub v2.23 for the purpose of add permanent subtitle to a movie, but somehow the VobSub seems only recognised one of them. During the installation of VobSub, it will ask for where Virtual is installed, if I put in the path of VitrualDub, then the VirtualDub and VodSub will be working fine. But in the other side, VirtualDub-MPEG4 seems missing something when I go to reload some movie. But if I put in the path of VirtualDub-MPEG4 during the installation of VobSub, then the VirtualDub-MPEG4 will be working fine, but the VirtualDub seems missing something. Actually, what make it like this? Thanks!

    VirtualDub-MPEG4?? Think you mean MPEG2.

Anyway I would suggest using vsfilter since it contains newer versions of vobsub and textsub VDub plugins.

Basically all you need to do though after installing is to copy the textsub.vdf and vobsub.vdf plugins from one plugin dir to the other.

  3. Many thanks, celtic_druid, this is a great solution for my problem, and it is ok now, thanks! by the way, do you have any comments about how to rip-off the warning display "warning: Nothing to output bframe decoder lag" (the display time less than half a second) started at the beginning of the movie after reloaded by VirtualDub-MPEG2? Thanks!

You can't remove something that isn't there. The decoder lag is generated by the decoder, it isn't part of the actual stream. It is there because you have an MPEG4 encoded avi that uses bframes that aren't packed. The problem is the VfW framework that VDub uses, it simply can't handle advanced stuff like bframes properly.

  5. Is that you mean I can't do nothing for this problem, right?

I didn't say that. If you use dshow for instance there won't be a lag frame, also won't be one using mencoder, ffmpeg, etc. basically anything that isn't VfW.
