for some reason I cannot choose xVid with TMPGEnc. When I go output file to AVI, it is by default dviX 6.0 and I have only these options for compressions:

    No compression
    Cinepack codec
    Intel Indeo R.32
    MS Video 1
    Indeo video 5.1
    Intel I. 263

It doesn't even show Divx although it's there by default. I have many more options in VirtualDub... but all I care is xVid that doesn't show up here?!?! How can I fix this?

    Thnx

I wouldn't recommend TMPGEnc for avi encoding anyway, just use VDub instead.

I've never had this problem, but you might try fixing it in tmpgenc by checking out option> environmental settings> VFAPI plugins and change some of the priority settings having to do with avi there.

well, I didnt know I can convert from quicktime or wmv with vdub. will check it out.

I believe the problem started after I installed DivX 6.0... may try uninstalling to see what happens.

Why not just try re-installing XviD ... I mean that makes sense since DivX works but XviD doesn't.

Well VDub can't open directly via dshow, however you can use AVISynth to frameserve:
    directshowsource("input.mov/wmv",fps=fps)

    Install avisynth
    Open notepad and type
    directshowsource("c:\input.wmv",fps=fps)
replace the c:\input.wmv to the location of your wmv
    Save as video.avs
Open the video.avs in virtualdub and you have imported the wmv video.

    thnx

How do u I get the fps of the wmv file? Gspot doesn't show it.

Also, when I did a test one, the colors were reduced. Like a wall that has shades of white, were shown in 5-6 distinct circles of white as opposed to a smooth transition. Should I set another paramater for color?

    Thnx

    1) You never mentioned wmv in your original post.
    2) I never said that VDub could open wmv files.

So you insult me and thank Baldrick for repeating the same thing?

AVISynth with directshowsource should use the same decoders as TMPGEnc so the colours should be the same. Only difference is that TMPGEnc will force a RGB24 colourspace conversion.

sorry, I didnt mean to insult.. just asking newbie stuff. I mentioned in 3rd post I am trying to convert .wmv . The instructions were very helpful, thnx.

Well, when I viewed the file in Vdub it screwed up the colors. will play with some settings to see what happens.
